Verbal abuse and emotional abuse may be the signs; NOT the syndrome.
It is friend, NOT enemy. It is not something to get upset AT, but rather something to grab your attention and seek to understand more.
I liken it to frequent awakening in the middle of the night, or to the chills or constipation.

In the story I commented about the other day, I find a statement that I hear far too often.
Ramsay says, “To this day, I will never understand why mum stayed with him. She deserved so much better and so much more; it still pains me to remember how badly he treated her.”
Once entangled, deeply entangled–especially with children involved–leaving can pose greater imagined threats than staying. And so, many women stay because they long to avert what they feel is the bigger danger. We find this more with women who are the economically unempowered partner in the relationship.
