Living in an abusive relationship can mean frequent trips to the doghouse. It’s a place established metaphorically. It is the space wherein an abusive person determines that you have done “wrong.”

There is an icky feeling that domestic abuse survivors feel within themselves when they are in the presence of the partner that battered them. It’s a feeling so clear and distinct that you can’t deny its presence even though you seek to rid yourself of its grip. It grabs you in the gut and weakens you from the inside out.

What is the difference between gender-based violence, narcissistic personality abuse and intermittent explosive violence? We hear these terms in the psychological and domestic abuse arenas frequently. Even though clinical psychology and domestic violence victim advocacy are as far apart as the north and South Pole, there are some common elements underlying these terms.
