I am often asked how do you go on in the face of your losses. People are in awe over my plight to thrive amidst a history of domestic violence and systemic abuse.
There’s only one answer I have to this question:
We are not our parents,
We are not our children,
We are not our work,
nor are we the bodies that house
our thought, emotions, memories and dreams.
We are the deeper essence of it all.
We come from our parents
Our children come through us
Our work comes from us
and our bodies carry us.
Our thoughts, feeling and actions dictate our direction,
But our boundless being is who we are.
So here’s what I did:
I embraced that, tasted it daily,
defined myself through and from it,
And from here, I move forward day by day
with a open heart, clear mind and light soul.
