Domestic Abuse Counseling – Why Therapy by Phone Helps Couples in Abusive Relationships

I have been doing telephone psychotherapy for over a decade now. With each passing year I understand more and more about why this modality is so effective in working with couples in abusive relationships

For years I credited much of the efficacy on my own experience of being able to dip deeply into patient’s felt meaning expressed vocally. The tunnel vision of my focus fosters keen accuracy. It’s as though I exist in the session as a vessel with absolutely no agenda other than to be as clear as is possible so that the patient sees himself/herself.

Fighting in Abusive Relationships – Lies That Turn Into Verbal Attacks and Emotional Abuse

It is whatever you believe it is, until you don’t. And then, it is something else. That’s the nature of our beliefs and our reality. Our experience is what we think, not sometimes…every time!

Has your partner ever come to you and insisted that you are doing such and such…? And he says it as though it is fact. Yet, in your heart of hearts, you know his assertion not to be so.

You also know that the lie he is telling himself is the root cause of the conflict between the two of you. It’s not about you; rather it is between his belief and his experience.
