Domestic abuse survivors hear it all the time: You’re too fat. That dress makes you look like… Your hair is too short, too long, you’re a dummy, you’re too fat. You can’t, you won’t, you shouldn’t, you’re too fat! Sound familiar?
It’s no wonder that domestic abuse survivors develop dysfunctional relationships with their bodies and unhealthy eating habits.

Trauma lives in the tissue and can be called upon with a simple thought…cascading into a mountain of emotion. When the avalanche rolls in…heed to its presence and its impact.
We carry our history into our present, so it’s not surprising that domestic abuse survivors taste the victim air in the face of these dormant thoughts.
Simply knowing this as such can open new doors of possibilities, new ways of being and experiencing oneself and those around you.

When a domestic abuse survivor leaves a battering relationship and moves out, or speaks out, is she safe? Not necessarily so. Statistics show she is more often at greater risk after she leaves.
Far too often we hear about battered women falling through the cracks of the system on their way out of an abusive relationship. Many losing their civil liberties, their parental rights and/or their sanity in route to safety. Or, as those who live this know, as a price for peace.
