It is no wonder that abused women are skeptical about the work of psychologists and psychiatrists. I’m reminded of a line is Shutter Island… “Reasonable protest is ‘denial;’ legitimate fears are ‘paranoia,’ and survival instincts are ‘defense mechanisms’.”
