Have you ever noticed how some apologies make you feel worse after getting them? You thought you were getting the apology you so longed to have; but you got an excuse, justification and campaign to extend your compassion.
Maybe that’s why you feel worse, because instead of getting the understanding you wanted for yourself, you are being asked to give it at a time that it’s simply not for the giving from where you stand.

I’m often asked the question, “Why do I seem to get into the same relationship, over and over?” This is a monumental inquiry and essential to all those leaving an abusive relationship.
Lesson Learned or Unearned?
You think that when you leave an abusive relationship, your lessons regarding domestic abuse are well learned. But then, you find yourself entangled with individuals that play many of the same control games as you experienced with the abuser that you left.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Don Miguel Ruiz and was touched by the potency, yet simplicity, of his message. With further reflection on his “The Four Agreements,” I see significant application to breaking the cycle of verbal abuse in marriage through the lessons of domestic abuse therapy.
The First Agreement and Domestic Abuse Treatment
“The Four Agreements” detail Don Miguel Ruiz’s code for life. Let’s take a look at the First Agreement and its relationship to domestic abuse treatment and breaking the cycle of spousal abuse, specifically verbal abuse in marriage.
