When a domestic abuse survivor leaves a battering relationship and moves out, or speaks out, is she safe? Not necessarily so. Statistics show she is more often at greater risk after she leaves.
Far too often we hear about battered women falling through the cracks of the system on their way out of an abusive relationship. Many losing their civil liberties, their parental rights and/or their sanity in route to safety. Or, as those who live this know, as a price for peace.

Have you ever noticed the subtle messages between and within individuals in abusive relationships.
Here’s a classic one (from the victim’s perspective): You’re Okay and I’m Not
The net result of this thinking is the victim finds her/himself striving to prove to their partner that they are indeed okay. But unconsciously to match the batterer’s perceptions of the victim, she/he displays their “not okayness.” Sound familiar?

Imagine rallying up the courage to leave an abusive partner and find yourself in a relationship with counsel in which you are the same as you were in relation to your partner…only difference is you’re in the seduction/promises phase of the relationship.
