Battered women in custody disputes are often eager to let you know everything that their soon-to-be ex is doing wrong with the children and what wonderful parents they themselves are.

This is natural as is the preparation for any Judgment Day that really matters. And let’s face it, what matters most to these women is their children and their relationship with their children.

Domestic Violence Help: Mental Healthcare Versus Domestic Violence Victim Advocacy

It is common knowledge in mental and behavioral health that one must suspend judgment to best serve patients in psychotherapy. Otherwise, the therapy is clouded by therapist agenda, expectations and bias. And in that, patients cannot discover their own truth.

So why is it that when it comes to domestic violence, survivors are met with therapists purporting to know what’s best for them? That is, when to leave and when to stay; and how to be in the event one remains in an abusive relationship?

Divorce and Abuse – Covering Your Bases When Domestic Violence Is in Divorce Court

All too often domestic violence survivors use all of their financial resources to hire an attorney and then come to find they have nothing left to secure a professional advocate that remains on their side. And then they feel frustrated, desperate, hopeless and abused. Sound familiar?

You expect your attorney to represent your best interest and so it is understandable how you want to invest all you have in this relationship. But, what may not be apparent right out of the gate is that this person will need to be paid beyond the initial retainer.
