Most of the time what people do to us is not about us; it’s all about them. But, when on the receiving end, we don’t see it that way. We assume it is because of us.

This is especially true of domestic violence survivors, who have become accustomed to believing other people’s actions toward them are their fault. It’s part of the indoctrination of intimate partner violence: “You made me do it.” “You made me say it, feel it, think it…”

The Childless Scarlet A: Healing from Family Violence and Legal Domestic Abuse

Some wounds are so severe that words cannot capture their complete pain. Being pushed out of one’s children’s lives or the lives of your grandchildren is one of these.

When this is yours, the depths of it take your breath away. I hear women tell me the cries that come out of them over their initial coming to know this pain sound primitive…like a wailing animal.
